Property Extractor dialog box
| Extraction | |
|---|---|
| Extraction list | Specifies the type of property to extract from geometric or FE entities.Total LengthExtracts length from polygon edges, 1D elements, or 1D meshes. When you select multiple entities, the software sums the values for each entity. For example, when the Type list is set to Polygon Edge, and you select multiple polygon edges, the software sums the lengths of the polygon edges in the selection.Projected LengthExtracts the length of a side of a bounding box that encloses a selection of polygon faces, 2D elements, or 2D meshes.Minimum ThicknessExtracts minimum thickness from polygon faces, 2D elements, 2D meshes, or nodes.Average ThicknessExtracts average thickness from polygon faces, 2D elements, 2D meshes, or nodes. For example, when the Type list is set to 2D Element, and you select one 2D element that is 5 mm thick and another that is 10 mm thick, the software calculates the average thickness to be 7.5 mm.Maximum ThicknessExtracts maximum thickness from polygon faces, 2D elements, 2D meshes, or nodes.Material PropertyExtracts material properties from polygon edges, polygon faces, 1D elements, 2D elements, 1D meshes, 2D meshes, or materials.Beam Cross Section PropertyExtracts cross sectional properties from polygon edges, 1D elements, 1D meshes, or beam cross sections. |
| Extracted value | Displays the value to which the selected source evaluates. The software uses this value for the corresponding parameter when you click OK.If the polygon geometry in the source changes, the software uses the updated value when you solve the calculation. |
| Advanced preview | Available after you add a source to the Sources table when the Extraction list is set to Minimum Thickness, Maximum Thickness, or Average Thickness.Displays the thickness values for the specified source. |
| Sources | |
| Sources table | Displays the sources from which you can select. A source is one or more geometric or FE entities. After you create an initial source, to add another source, click Add a new source .To select a source, click the row.To deselect all the geometric or FE entities from a source, on the Selection tab, in the Action group, choose Deselect All .To deselect an individual geometric or FE entity from a source, press Shift and click the entity in the graphics window. To add new geometric or FE entities to an existing source, select the entities in the graphics window and click Confirm source edit . |
| Delete selected source | Deletes the source that is selected in the Sources table. |
| Add a new source | Lets you create a new source. |
| Type | Available when you add a source.Specifies the type of geometric or FE entities to select. The available options depend on your selection in the Extraction list.Polygon EdgeSelects polygon edges.Polygon FaceSelects polygon faces.1D ElementSelects 1D elements.2D ElementSelects 2D elements.1D MeshSelects 1D meshes.2D MeshSelects 2D meshes.NodeSelects nodes.GroupSelects groups.Additional options appear when you select this option.Selection RecipeSelects selection recipes.Laminate Physical PropertySelects laminates properties.Additional options appear when you select this option.MaterialSelects materials.Additional options appear when you select this option.Beam SectionSelects beam cross sections.Additional options appear when you select this option. |
| Name | Available when you add a source.Sets the name that appears in the Sources table and is used in the formula for the expression that the software creates for the parameter. For example, when the Extraction list is set to Total Length and you type Edge Length in the Name box, the formula that appears in the Expressions dialog box and the dialog box for the calculation is:ExtractProperty("Edge Length","TOTAL_LENGTH",{}) |
| Select Object | Appears when you create a new source or you select an existing source.Lets you select the geometric or FE entities for a source. |
| Stacked Smart Selector Methods | Appears when you create a new source or you select an existing source.Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box. |
| Abort source edit | Appears when you click Add a new source .Terminates the source creation. |
| Reset | Appears when you click Add a new source or you select an existing source.Available when you edit a source.Resets the source to the original selection. |
| Confirm source edit | Appears when you click Add a new source or you select an existing source.Adds the current selection of geometric or FE entities to the Sources table. |
| Create Laminate Physical Property | Appears when the Extraction list is set to Minimum Thickness, Maximum Thickness, or Average Thickness and Type is set to Laminate Physical Property.Opens the Laminate Modeler dialog box where you can define a laminate. |
| Select Material | Appears when the Extraction list is set to Material Property and the Type list is set to Material.Opens the Material List dialog box from which you can select a material from the material library or create a material. For more information, see Manage Materials / Material List dialog boxes. |
| Select a Beam Section | Appears when the Extraction list is set to Beam Cross Section Property and the Type list is set to Beam Section.Opens the Beam Section Manager dialog box from which you can select the beam cross section. |
| Projected length parameters | |
| Appears when the Extraction list is set to Projected Length. | |
| Specify CSYS | Available after you add a source to the Sources table.Lets you specify the coordinate system about which the software constructs a bounding box that encloses the geometric or FE entities in the source and whose edges align with the X and Y-axes of the coordinate system. For more information, see CSYS dialog box. |
| Axis | Available after you add a source to the Sources table.Specifies the edge of the bounding box from which to extract the value for the length. |
| Properties | |
| Appears when the Extraction list is set to Material Property or Beam Cross Section Property.Available when you select or create a valid source. | |
| Reference Material | Appears when the Extraction list is set to Material Property.Displays the name of the selected reference material. |
| Reference Beam Section | Appears when the Extraction list is set to Beam Cross Section Property.Displays the name of the selected beam cross section. |
| Material Temperature | Appears when the Extraction list is set to Material Property.Sets the temperature at which to evaluate temperature-dependent material properties. |
| Display all properties | Controls which material or beam cross section properties are displayed in the Properties list. When this check box is selected, all of the properties for the selected material or beam cross section are displayed. When this check box is cleared, only the properties for the selected material or beam cross section that have the same dimensions as the material property or cross section property you are defining are displayed. |
| Show keywords | Displays the Keyword column in the Properties list. This column displays the neutral name that identifies each property of the selected material or beam cross section and that is used in the expression generated by the extraction. |
