Initial Conditions dialog box (Abaqus)

Type
Type Specifies how the constraint is defined:Velocity - Components Lets you specify initial velocity on a set of nodes in the translational degrees of freedom (DOF1 to DOF3) and/or rotational degrees of freedom (DOF4 to DOF6). Velocity - Magnitude and DirectionLets you input the magnitude of an initial velocity (translational) and specify its direction by creating a vector. The software creates a nodal Cartesian coordinate system where the velocity vector points towards the local Z-direction. Velocity - NormalLets you select element or geometry faces to define an initial velocity normal to that surface. The software creates nodal Cartesian coordinate systems where the Z-direction indicates the direction of the velocity (each individual local nodal coordinate system is exported using the *TRANSFORM keyword). The software writes the nodal velocity in the global coordinate system. Initial TemperatureApplies initial temperature on a set of nodes in multiple regions in the model. Note: If you define an initial condition for temperature, it overrides the default temperature values you set in the General or Initial Conditions tab of the Solution dialog box. The option corresponds to the Abaqus *TYPE=TEMPERATURE parameters to the *INITIAL CONDITIONS keyword.
Destination Folder
Constraint Container Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which to store the boundary condition. The list includes the root container and existing folders that you created using the New Folder command. Examples of a root container include Load Container, Constraint Container, and Simulation Object Container.
Folder Manager Displays a hierarchical list of existing folders. To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder.
Model Objects
Group Reference Lets you apply the constraint to a group. For more information, see Group Reference options.
Select Object Lets you select the geometry, node, element, or other FEM object to which to apply the constraint. ExcludedLets you remove individual entities from within the selected object.
Direction
Specify Vector Appears when the type is set to Velocity - Magnitude and Direction. Defines the direction of the constraint.
Reverse Direction Appears when the type is set to Velocity - Magnitude and Direction.Reverses the direction of the vector.
Velocity CSYS Appears when the type is set to Velocity - Components.Selects the coordinate system used to apply the constraint. Note: Select Existing to use the velocity coordinate system currently defined for the selected node(s) or associated geometry.
Magnitudes
Appears when the type is set to Velocity - Magnitude and Direction**** or Normal.
Initial Velocity Defines the magnitude of the initial velocity as a constant value or NX expression.See Expressions for more information. For more information, see Additional magnitude options.
Initial Velocity
Appears when the type is set to Velocity - Components.
DOF1 through DOF6 Defines the magnitude of the initial velocity for each of the DOF with a constant value or NX expression. For more information, see Additional magnitude options.
Initial Temperature
Temperature Defines the initial temperature.
Card Name Displays the name of the solver card for the constraint.
