Select nodes on feature element edges
On the scene toolbar, from the Method list, select Feature Edge Nodes. The Type Filter is automatically set to Element Edge.
(Optional) Click Smart Selector Options to do any of the following, and then click OK:To control the type of element edges that the software uses, select the appropriate option from the Element Edges list. For example, if you select Only Feature, the software selects nodes on only the edges of elements whose feature angle (the dihedral angle between the elements) is greater than the Feature Angle Threshold value specified in the Customer Defaults dialog box.To set the maximum angle between two adjacent edges below which they are considered part of the same feature, type the value in the Feature Angle Tolerance box.Note: When setting this value, be conscious of the nature of the model. For example, to select all nodes around the perimeter of the mating face of the top of a cylinder block, specify a relatively large feature angle, such as 45–60 degrees. This ensures that element edges on the perimeter whose feature angle is close to 90 degrees are considered feature edges. That is, to chain together a number of edges which may not be tangent continuous, you want the setting to be large.Alternatively, to select nodes along a row of element edges in the interior of a fairly smooth face, set the feature angle relatively small (5–10 degrees) so that interior element edges are considered feature element edges. This results in a chain of element edges that are almost tangent continuous. To stop the selection at a non-manifold boundary (such as a single edge shared by two or more faces in a T-type intersection), select the Stop at Non-manifold Junctions check box.If you clear this check box, the selection extends beyond the non-manifold boundary along the most tangent edge.To apply the current selection method only to entities displayed in the graphics window, select the Select Only Visible Entities check box.
Select a free element edge.First, the software determines the feature element edges for the entire model. Only element edges whose adjacent faces' normal vectors exceed the feature angle threshold are considered feature element edges. If the free element edge you select is one of these edges, the software identifies adjacent feature element edges whose tangency condition is less than the feature angle. The software then selects all appropriate nodes on adjacent feature element edges.
