Face from Mesh example: Remeshing a portion of your model
The following example demonstrates how to use Face from Mesh command to remesh a selected portion of a model while maintaining the connectivity of the nodes on the boundary between the old and new meshes.
First, to facilitate display and selection, create two groups of elements:Group 1, that contains one row of elements along the outer boundary of the region of elements.Group 2, that contains all the remaining elements. In the graphic below, group 1 is highlighted.
Hide group 1 so that only the interior elements are visible. This is the region that we will remesh. In the Simulation Navigator, under the Groups folder, right-click group 1 and select Hide. The software imports the new geometry into the FEM file.
Choose Home tab→Polygon Geometry group→Face from Mesh.
In the Face from Mesh dialog box:Select all the visible elements. In the Target Body group, click Create New to create a new polygon body for the new face.Click OK.The software creates a new face from those elements.
Redisplay all the elements. In the Simulation Navigator, under the Groups folder, right-click group 1 and select Show.
Remesh the region of the model defined by the new polygon face.Choose Home tab→Mesh group→2D Mesh.In the 2D Mesh dialog box, select the new polygon face.In the Mesh Parameters group, specify an Element Size of 2.5 in and clear the Attempt Free Mapped Meshing check box.Click OK.By creating the new polygon face only on the elements in group 2, the elements in group 1 remain connected to the elements on the boundary of the new face. This preserves the connectivity between the elements in group 1 and the new mesh.Tip: You can use the Nodes option in the Model Check dialog box to ensure that there are no duplicate nodes.
