Define sensor locations and directions with large displacements

This example shows how to identify the DOFs with the highest displacements over all the target modes of a group of spatially distributed nodes. To do this, first you create a group of spatially distributed nodes, then using the Identify High Displacement DOFs command, you create a DOF Set that you use to define the candidate sensor locations.

  1. Choose Correlation tab→ Pre-Test Planning group→ Maximum Spread Node Group .

  2. In the Candidate Nodes group, click Select Object .

  3. In the graphics window, drag a selection box around your model to select all the nodes.

  4. In the Parameters group, in the Maximum Number of Nodes box, type 150.

  5. In the Minimum Distance box, type 50 mm.

  6. Click OK.The created group of nodes is displayed under the Groups node in the Simulation Navigator.

  7. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the pre-test solution process node and choose Identify High Displacement DOFs.

  8. On the scene toolbar, from the Method list, select Nodes by Group.

  9. In the Simulation Navigator, under the Groups node, select the group that was created in the step 5.

  10. In the Threshold Value box, keep the value of 0.5. This means that the half of the selected DOFs with the smallest modal displacements will be excluded from the MODMAC algorithm.

  11. Click OK. Notice that only the DOFs normal to the wings and elevator are retained, since the elastic modes have little in-plane motion.The created DOF set is displayed under the Solver Sets node, in the Simulation Navigator and the respective node set is displayed under the Groups node.

  12. In the Simulation Navigator, under the Sensor Selection node, right-click the Candidate DOF node and choose Edit.

  13. In the Select DOF Set group, from the list, select the high displacement DOF set that the software created in the step 11.

  14. Click OK.
