Define Generic Entities

This example shows how to define a heat load based on the temperature of an element in the model, using generic entities. You must create a group to specify the elements for the heat load, another group to specify the element for the temperature, define a thermal load to specify a heat load field with respect to temperature on the region of interest, and create a generic entity to modify the thermal solver.

  1. Create the following groups:Create a group that contains the elements that define the dependent variable, in this case, the heat load. These elements specify your region of interest where the heat load is to be defined. The heat load is based on the temperature of one element in the model.Create a second group that contains the element for the independent variable, in this case, temperature. This is the temperature on which the heat load will be based.

  2. Choose Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Load Type list→Thermal Loads .The Thermal Loads dialog box is displayed.

  3. To define the heat load, do the following:Select the region of interest where the heat load is to be interpolated. In the Heat Load box, click .Click New FieldTable .The Table Field dialog box is displayed.Under Domain, set Independent to Temperature. In the Data Points box, enter 20, 10, 25, 20, 30, 25, click Accept Edit , and click OK twice. You now have a heat load field with respect to temperature on the region where the heat load is to be interpolated. You are now ready to create a generic entity to modify the behavior of the thermal solver when calculating the thermal load.

  4. Choose Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Advanced Controls .

  5. In the Advanced Controls dialog box, select Generic Entity from the Type list.

  6. Under the Set 1 Region group, select the Group Reference check box.

  7. From the Options list, select the group that you defined in the step 1a.This is the group that contains the element for the dependent variable, heat load.

  8. Under the Set 2 Region group, select the Group Reference check box.

  9. From the Options list, select the group that you defined in the step 1b.This is the group that contains the element for the independent variable, temperature.

  10. Under the Type group, set the Entity Type to INPF Card.

  11. Under the INPF Card Entity group, in the Card Number box, enter 9.Card 9 refers to the INTERP Analyzer Table Interpolation. For more information, see Thermal Solver TMG Reference Manual .

  12. In the Text Input box, enter INTERP #SET1 #SET2 13 TOTAL 1.000000E+00.13 refers to the ID of the heat load table defined in step 3. You must check your INPF file to obtain this ID number.
