Axisymmetric, plane stress and plane strain analyses in Simcenter Samcef

Axisymmetric elements

The Simcenter Samcef environment supports the Axisymmetric and Other 2D Structural and Axisymmetric Thermal analysis types when you create a new FEM and a Simulation file.

To use axisymmetric elements, you must define the 2D Solid Option that defines the plane of the global coordinate system in which the elements will be created and the axisymmetric rotational axis:

  • ZX Plane, Z Axis — Axisymmetric elements must be on the ZX plane. The axisymmetric rotational axis is Z (.ALGO AXER 1 AXES 3).

  • XY Plane, Y Axis — Axisymmetric elements must be on the XY plane. The axisymmetric rotational axis is Y. (.ALGO AXER 1 AXES 2)

  • XY Plane, X Axis — Axisymmetric elements must be on the XY plane. The axisymmetric rotational axis is X. (.ALGO AXER 2 AXES 1)

You cannot create axisymmetric elements that cut the axisymmetric rotational axis.

Types of elements Simcenter Samcef hypothesis
Structural axisymmetric elements .HYP AXISYMETRIQUE, .HYP MEMBRANE AXISYMETRIQUE.
Thermal axisymmetric elements .HYP THERMIQUE AXISYMETRIQUE.

Plane stress and plane strain elements in Simcenter Samcef

You create plane stress or plane strain elements in a Axisymmetric and Other 2D Structural analysis type when you create a new FEM and a Simulation file. You choose a 2D Solid Option that defines the plane of the global coordinate system in which the elements will be created :

  • ZX Plane, Z Axis — Axisymmetric elements must be on the ZX plane.

  • XY Plane, Y Axis — Axisymmetric elements must be on the XY plane.

  • XY Plane, X Axis — Axisymmetric elements must be on the XY plane.

Note:

You cannot create them on a plane parallel to the ZX or XY plane.

Types of elements Simcenter Samcef hypothesis
Plane stress elements .HYP MEMBRANE BIDIM.
Plane strain elements .HYP DEFO PLAN, .HYP COQU DEFO PLAN.
