Getting started > Notes
Notes
You can add notes to a Simulation, FEM, or assembly FEM file. This lets you call attention to a change, an area of concern, or anything that you want to communicate to other individuals who might view the model. You can specify where each note is positioned and how the text appears.
Viewing notes
Notes are associated with the file that was the work part when the note was created. Their visibility is affected by which part is the displayed part, and the part's position in the Simulation Navigator hierarchy. For example, because FEM files are subordinate to Simulation files, if you create a note when the FEM file is the work part, you can see that note when the Simulation file is the displayed part. However, if you create a note when the Simulation file is the work part, you cannot see that note when the FEM file is the displayed part. This is also true for FEM and assembly FEM files.
Setting note preferences
You can use the CAE Note Preferences dialog box to set default values for certain lettering and display attributes. For example, you can set the default font, text color, and text justification, although you can override these preferences when you create or edit a note.
You can also specify whether all new notes are automatically oriented parallel to the screen, and whether their size and position is locked. When a note is parallel to the screen, you can always read it even when you rotate the model. When a note's size and position are locked, the note always remains the same size and in the same location on the screen even when you zoom in and out.
Regardless of the setting on the CAE Note Preferences dialog box, you can typically modify these settings for a particular note.
Connecting notes to objects in the model
When you create a note, you can typically include a leader line that connects the note to one or more points, mesh points, nodes, elements, meshes, loads, or constraints. The leader terminates at the geometric center of the selected object.
If the geometry changes, the leader adjusts accordingly. If you delete the terminating object, the leader remains displayed and continues to terminate at the previous location.
You can specify how each leader looks, including where the line jogs and what kind of arrowhead to use, if any. You can also apply style changes to all of the leaders associated with the note simultaneously.
Note:
If the note is parallel to the screen, you can create only one leader. If the note's size and position are locked, you cannot create any leaders.
Whether or not you use a leader, you can associate the note with one or more nodes, elements, or polygon edges, faces, or bodies. When you click the note in the graphics window, the associated objects are highlighted. If you delete an object associated with a note, the note remains until you delete it manually.
Managing notes
After you create one or more notes, you can perform several actions to manage them:
To move a note, select it in the graphics window and drag it to the desired location. For information about other positioning techniques, see Move a note.
To edit, hide, or delete a note, right-click it in the graphics window and choose the appropriate command.
To show a note that is currently hidden, or to put one or more notes in a folder, use the Note Manager dialog box.All notes that are not created in a specific folder are automatically placed in the ROOT folder, but you can move them to a different folder. Putting notes in a folder makes it easier to show, hide, or delete multiple notes simultaneously. Using the Note Manager dialog box, you can also edit an existing note and create, rename, and delete folders.
Note:
You can move, edit, or delete a note only when the appropriate file is the work part. For example, if you created the note when the FEM file was the work part, you cannot edit that note when the Simulation file is the work part.
