About the MIND Mesh Associated Data property (Simcenter Samcef)
The MIND card mesh associated property drives the flexural behavior and the geometrical stiffness of the Mindlin shells.
For this property, enter a number that follows the 100 x TRIA + 10 x GEOM + FLEX equation and where the FLEX, GEOM, and TRIA valid values are defined in the following tables.
TRIA value
| TRIA value | Description |
|---|---|
| 1 | Energy linked to the in-plane rotation reduced for triangle element. |
| 2 | Same formulation for the triangle as for the quadrangle. |
Note:
The first option for the in-plane rotation gives better results for the triangle, but is not compatible with the quadrangular element. The second option must be used if triangular elements are coupled with quadrangular elements.
GEOM value
| GEOM value | Description |
|---|---|
| 1 | Rotations are taken into account. |
| 2 | Rotations are not taken into account. |
Note:
With the first option, the critical loads tend to be underestimated. With the second one, to be used if the mesh is not fine enough for local modes, they tend to be over-estimated.
FLEX value
| FLEX value | Description |
|---|---|
| 0 | DSQ/DST (Discrete Shear Quadrangular/Triangular element) formulation of Batoz. |
| 1 | Formulation close to the T1 of Hughes for quadrangular element, DST for triangular element. |
| 2 | Formulation close to the T1 of Hughes for quadrangular element, similar formulation for triangular element. |
Note:
Both formulations converge toward the same solution. In general, the DSQ/DST formulation is softer than the T1 formulation.
The mass matrix depends on the formulation. For the DST/DSQ formulation, there are non-zero values linked to the out of plane rotation; for the T1 formulation, the values linked to the out-of-plane rotation are equal to 0.
By default, if the MIND card option is not defined, Simcenter Samcef uses a value of 220.
