1D element coating meshes
You can create a coating of 1D elements on the edges of an existing 3D or 2D mesh. These 1D elements do affect the 2D meshes on the adjacent faces.
If the elements in the associated 2D or 3D mesh are parabolic, the software creates two linear 1D elements on each parabolic element edge.
If the associated 2D or 3D mesh contains any tiny element edges, the software does not create 1D elements on those edges.Note: Tiny element edges are edges whose length is smaller than the Minimum Element Length tolerance value in the Auto Heal Geometry dialog box.
You can create a coating mesh of 1D elements either on an existing 2D or 3D mesh that is either is or is not associated with underlying geometry.
If the 2D or 3D mesh is associated with geometry, use the Mesh Coat option in the 1D Mesh dialog box to define the 1D coating mesh. This coating mesh only updates when the associated 2D or 3D mesh updates.
If the 2D or 3D mesh is not associated with geometry, use the Element Coat option in the Type list of the Element Copy and Translate dialog box. Then, select the element edges along which to define the 1D coating elements.
The software stores 1D coating meshes in a 1d_mesh_coat node in the Simulation Navigator.
