Create a boundary layer mesh

This example shows how to create a boundary layer mesh around an airfoil. The solid body represents air, which is the fluid domain around the airfoil that will be meshed.

Choose Home tab→Mesh group→Mesh Control .

In the Density Types group, select Boundary Layer.

Select the airfoil face as the seed for your boundary layer.

In the Layers group, enter the values that characterize the boundary conditions.

This example uses the following values:

  • Number of Layers = 15

  • First Layer Thickness = 1 mm

  • Height Defined by = Total Thickness

  • Total Thickness = 50 mm

Click OK.

The boundary layer mesh control is created in the Simulation Navigator.

Choose Home tab→Mesh group→3D Tetrahedral .

Select the body to mesh.

Specify meshing and boundary layer parameters.

In this example, the element size is set to 50 mm.

Click OK.

In the Simulation Navigator, the following nodes are created.

3D Collectors
Solid(1)
3d_mesh(1)
3d_Pyramid_transition(1)
3d_BL_HexWedges(1)

Tip:

To better distinguish the meshes, modify the colors of the generated meshes using the Edit Mesh Display command.
