Pre-test solution process
Pre-Test Planning is a solution process that allows you to select optimum sensor and exciter locations for a modal test. The goal of pre-test planning is to make sure that, during the modal test:
The exciters are placed such that all normal modes of interest are excited.
The sensors are placed such that the desired modes are captured and readily distinguished from one another.
| Pre-test sensors' location configuration | Auto MAC of the sensors' configuration | Pre-test exciters’ location |
|---|
The pre-test solution process references the normal mode solution contained in the Simulation file. Pre-test planning generally precedes modal testing.
With pre-test planning, you can specify the desired normal modes by assigning a weight to each mode that emphasizes the most important ones. You can also identify the required, initial and candidate degrees-of-freedom (DOF) sets for sensor selection and sensor and candidate DOF sets for exciter selection. You can create, manage, and solve multiple sensor or exciter selection configurations simultaneously. For example, you can compute sensor sets with a different number of uniaxial and/or triaxial sensors.
The pre-test solution process allows you to view:
Selected sensor and exciter locations and measurement directions in the model view.
The MAC matrix for the candidate modes, considering all DOF, the required/initial DOF, the candidate DOF, or a sensor selection configuration's DOF.
The MODMAC evolution bar chart associated to a MODMAC sensor selection configuration.
The DPR matrix associated to a DPR exciter selection configuration.
You can compare the multiple sensor selection configurations in a detailed table format that lists key properties, such as the number of sensors and the maximum off-diagonal auto MAC entry for each configuration.
With pre-test planning you can export:
Selected sensor and exciter configurations to a Test Analysis Reference Solution, which you can export as a UNVor SC2TL file.
Sensor selection configurations to a Simulation DOF Set.
Pre-test planning results to an Excel spreadsheet or a CSV file.
The pre-test solution process maximizes the effectiveness of a modal test by letting you clearly examine the model's modal properties when using as few sensors and exciters as possible. The generated modal test data is a prerequisite for successful FE model correlation and updating.
